VITA La La Dolce Vita – the sweet life - explores Kerry Darlington’s fascination with life and growth, nature and magic, and draws us into her highly recognisable and completely irresistible world. Kerry’s inspirations come from many places – fairy tales, myths, legends, historical illustrations, nature, her mother…One of the most important over the years has been that of Austrian symbolist painter Gustav Klimt, and this luminous three-dimensional image is a beautiful example of this. One of Klimt’s most beloved works, The Tree of Life (1909), with its ornate and elaborate flourishes and dazzling use of gold has been hugely influential. The tree of life is found in many areas of historic literature where it represents the ideas of life and growth as well as the connection between heaven and earth and world beneath. This is a concept which fascinates Kerry who often enjoys a period of solitude when she is sketching out in the countryside, observing nature at first hand, and using her art to form a deep connection of her own. Out of her love for this and other Klimt paintings, has grown, almost organically, an entire series of pieces which have become some of Kerry’s signature works. 18 KERRY DARLINGTON LA DOLCE VITA
