Each piece features a familiar solitary figure drawn from his own fascinating personal history, and as such they are painted with insight and intimacy. The characters are portrayed gazing into the distance lost in thought, perhaps of days gone by, and this reflects Fabian’s intentions of revisiting his own past in this uniquely heady and atmospheric setting. Fabian’s achievements are due in part to his creative and technical genius, and in part to a unique style which is an embodiment of his journey through life so far. His work is characterised by painterly brushstrokes, a density of texture, and intense colour and depth, but within the darkness there is always light, and this is a concept that has inspired a beautiful new presentation. Two of the pieces in the collection have been framed in a hand built and hand finished off-white frame which complements the composition, style and colours, accentuating and almost magnifying the light in the image.
